I came across this information while looking for events to add to the East Central Minnesota 411 calendar.
Easten Michael Engstrom is due to be born on August 15, 2010 to parents Nicholas and Derri Engstrom, and brother, Deven Hanson. While doctors will learn more after his birth, they have determined that Easten has Single Ventricle Anomaly, Mal-posed Great Vessels and a Songle AV Valve. Easten will require a minimum of three surgeries at the Children's Hospital.
Please join the Engstroms to give them emotional and financial support at the Spectaular Events Center, 1001 County Road 5 on Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. The schedule of events is as follows:
The 3rd annual Pine City Pregnancy Resource Center Golf Tournament is Friday, June 18th at 1:00 p.m. A $50 entry fee gets you 18 holes, a cart and dinner. It should be an ejoyable time supporting a great cause! Consider sponsoring a hole for $100. Contact Floyd or Jan Nettleton at 320-629-2792 or e-mail

I took advantage of the warm weather this afternoon by planting peas and radishes in my garden. This is the earliest in the year I remember any portion of my garden going in. I may be jumping the gun, but the conditoins seemed right. The warm sunshine, combined with the soil that was moist, but not too wet made for a pleaseant afternoon of preparing the garden and putting a few seeds in.
Peas and radishes like the cool weather, but time will tell if I got too anxious about getting the "crops" planted. I'm no master gardener. I like to experiment and take my chances on whatever conditions seem right at the time. Time will tell if by fishing opener, or we'll be eating fresh radishes or replanting them.
Summer is here, and we are in the process of adding events to the East Central Minnesota 411 calendar. Community celebrations, fairs, parades and concerts are just a few of the things you can enjoy in East Central Minnesota during the summer. The ice has been off local rivers and streams for some time now. Ice-out on Pokegama Lake near Pine City reportedly occurred on Thursday. Ice-out on Rush Lake reportedly occurred on Wednesday. This DNR web page reports ice-out dates on some of the larger lakes. As of this writing, we are still waiting for ice-out on Mille Lacs.
